Amit Khare, a former Education and Information and Broadcasting Secretary, was named Tuesday as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Advisor in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Shri Amit Khare, IAS (Retd.) (JH:1985) as Advisor to the Prime Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, in the rank and scale of Secretary to the Government of India, on a contract basis, subject to the usual terms and conditions applicable to re-employed officers of Secretary level in the Government of India, initial.
Khare, a 1985 batch IAS officer from the Bihar/Jharkhand cadre, was key in exposing Bihar’s infamous fodder fraud in the 1990s. He was also the Secretary of Information and Broadcasting.
Khare’s final accomplishment before retirement was to shape the present regime’s ambitious National Education Policy 2020.
